What do we do?

As a group our main objective is to support the University College excavations and to offer educational oportunities relating to archaeology. This includes helping people off all ages lean new skills and increase their self-confidence. We also have interesting trips, visits and workshops planned over the course of each year.

We concentrate on two things in particular; practically doing archaeology and also organising educational and other public activities. On site we help with setting-up each summer, offer extra help on site if needed and help to put the site to bed at the end of each season. We also volunteer on the site.

Another of the activities FOS members participate in is finds processing and recording. We meet the second Saturday of each month in the Archaeology Lab at BG (and on some Wednesdays - see Diary Dates) Bishop Grosseteste University College Lincoln. As a research & training dig working with the finds offers lots of opportunities ranging from simply helping out with processing to more advanced activities quantifying and recording with the help of specialists.
